POWA Productions continues to experience a growing workload, resulting in rising demand for versatile, multifunctional lighting solutions. In early 2025, they purchased 50 Claypaky Sharpy X Frame, a hybrid fixture built on the most iconic moving light, the Claypaky Sharpy.
With its ability to create spot, profile, beam, or wash effects, the Claypaky Sharpy X Frame was a dream solution. The purchase was such a raging success that fifty more were purchased early this year!
“The Claypaky Sharpy X Frame fixtures replaced all of our Robe Megapointes,” stated Darren Stott, Production Manager and Head of Lighting at POWA. “These units offer remarkable versatility and consistently deliver high brightness, regardless of the number of effects applied. And those effects are amazing: two gobo wheels, two prisms, six beam reducers, colour wheels, colour mixing, and an animation wheel. With dual BEAM/SPOT modes, you get a wide, adaptable zoom range, allowing you to switch easily between narrow beams and broad wash coverage.”
The fixture features four adjustable framing shutters integrated into Claypaky’s renowned optical system, consistent with Sharpy fixture performance standards.
“The Sharpy X-Frames are a very impressive fixture,” remarked Darren. “The way they handle fully saturated, deep reds whilst remaining so punchy is incredible.”
Managing Director Geoff Knight added, “Hybrid fixtures are incredibly versatile and help us meet various rider requirements. Where we may have had to hang spots and beams, now it’s just one model. Claypaky’s reputation for reliability, sturdy construction, and top-tier performance is a valuable source of confidence.”
POWA deployed a whopping 64 Claypaky Sharpy X-Frame units on the road with Jimmy Barnes’ Working Class Man 40th Anniversary Tour, proudly presented by MG Live and Face To Face Touring. Joining Jimmy were Icehouse, Ian Moss and Kate Cebrano.
“I haven’t got a bad word to say about the Claypaky Sharpy X Frames,” said Jeff Pavey, lighting designer for Jimmy Barnes. “They were the workhorse of the show and didn’t miss a beat. And Darren was with us all the way and is just a great guy.”
Icehouse’s lighting designer Alex Saad commented, “Icehouse were onstage before it got dark, yet the colours and brightness I got in the daylight from the Sharpy X Frames were great. They’re punchy, and their zoom range is remarkable.”
