Cairns Performing Arts Centre (CPAC) is seeking skilled and motivated Theatre Technicians across multiple levels to support the delivery of high-quality performances and events across CPAC and other Creative Life venues.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for technically capable, customer-focused professionals with a strong background in live production and a passion for the performing arts. You’ll bring hands-on experience across theatre audio, lighting, vision, mechanical and/or staging systems, along with a solid understanding of WH\&S principles in a live performance environment. You enjoy working as part of a collaborative team, take pride in maintaining high production standards, and are confident liaising with clients to deliver smooth, well-managed events. Depending on your level, you may also bring demonstrated leadership experience, the ability to supervise and mentor others, and expertise in designing and operating more complex technical systems. Relevant industry qualifications (or the ability to obtain them), a current C Class licence, and flexibility to work across varied performance schedules are essential to success in this role.
What you’ll be doing
- Working on performances, rehearsals, pre-rigs, bump-ins and bump-outs as directed
- Operating and maintaining CPAC technical equipment and systems to high industry standards
- Supporting the delivery of seamless, high-quality events across all venues
- Providing excellent customer service to performers, clients and stakeholders
- Constructing sets and properties and operating equipment such as follow spots
- Maintaining safe, clean and well-organised backstage and technical areas
- Undertaking general venue and equipment maintenance as required
- Capturing required information in Council systems in line with recordkeeping requirements
- For senior roles: supervising technicians and contractors, leading productions and contributing to design, training and risk management documentation
