Violet Audio has introduced Spatia 2D, an object-based spatial audio application for its dMix 128 digital mixing system, with the software allowing engineers to position, move and automate audio sources across systems with up to 24 loudspeaker outputs.
Designed for live sound, theater, themed entertainment, broadcast, corporate events, installations and studio use, Spatia 2D provides a virtual stage for placing audio objects within a two-dimensional sound field. The application calculates each object’s contribution to individual loudspeaker outputs in real time, with selectable panning laws including equal-power, distance, angle-weight and linear.
Engineers can position and group objects, adjust depth and width, create custom movement paths, and automate trajectories using an integrated timeline. MIDI, timecode and OSC support allow synchronization with other production systems.
“Spatia 2D represents another major step in our vision of making advanced production technology accessible to more engineers and production companies,” says Daniel Olesh, founder of Violet Audio. “Immersive audio should not be reserved only for the largest productions. By combining Spatia 2D with the dMix 128, we’re providing a practical, affordable platform that allows users to explore object-based mixing without investing in proprietary hardware ecosystems.”
The software supports scene snapshots and automated movement paths for repeatable show operation. Complete productions can be saved as .spatia files, with real-time control available from the dMix 128 console or through OSC.
Spatia 2D uses the console’s DSP architecture, low-latency audio engine, scalable I/O and browser-based control. AES67 and SMPTE ST 2110 networking support integration into live sound and broadcast systems.
The release follows recent dMix 128 platform updates that added SMPTE ST 2110-30 networking, AMWA NMOS device discovery and stream management, AES67 interoperability and browser-based remote control.
