About the role
Ballarat is home to some of Australia’s most historically significant cultural venues including Her Majesty’s Theatre, Civic Hall and the Mining Exchange.
As a casual Supervising Technician, you will be leading a talented team of theatre technicians responsible for performance and backstage areas of the cultural venues. Duties include:
- Lead the team of Theatre Technicians through exceptional event/show delivery.
- Inducting personnel to the Cultural Venues evacuation and workplace health and safety procedures prior to event commencing via a Toolbox Talk onstage.
- Take on responsibility of opening and closing the venues within ordinary spread of hours in accordance with policies and procedures and manage venue access for internal and external contractors/clients as required.
- Take on the role of Deputy Warden in the event of an Emergency.
- Ensure all areas are safe for access, contributing to a strong maintenance regime as require, reporting repairs of specialist theatrical equipment in a timely manner and reporting any safety related issues via Elumina as they arise.
- Participate in meetings and/or communication and provide a high level of technical support to clients and arts companies as required to ensure smooth event delivery.
- Be responsible for the isolation of the Fire System for events that contain smoke/effects and the re-arm of fire system once event is complete.
- Ensure professional presentation of the venues, including preparation of equipment and consumables for events in a timely, safe and professional manner.
- Ensure timely and detailed event reporting.
- Adhere to performance standards as directed by Coordinator Production and Technical Services.
- Proactively liaise with Visitor Experience and senior team members, working to ensure smooth delivery and problem solving.
- Assist the Coordinator Production and Technical Services with staff time management including monitoring break times and any additional hours.
About you
We are looking for skilled and motivated individuals to be a part of our casual delivery workforce:
- Who will be accountable for the delivery of high level, quality and accurate information and customer service provided to employees and clients.
- Who has working knowledge of the technical aspects of theatre performances, events, exhibitions, workshops and festivals.
- Who understands the roles and responsibilities of technicians and the varying areas of technical skills.
- Capacity to operate a variety of theatrical lighting, audio, A/V, staging and IT equipment and knowledge of counterweight system operations.
- Who has a strong understanding of technical infrastructure across Cultural Venues including functional knowledge of technical equipment and processes required to present events and operate venues.
- Ability to provide effective leadership, customer service to clients/arts companies and users of Cultural Venues and can works well under pressure.
- Knowledge in the use of CAD/Vectorworks and Microsoft applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- A knowledge and understanding of emergency management systems, current workplace health and safety legislation and practices.
- Licence requirements – EWP, Electrical Test & Tag, Doggers Certificate (Rigging) and Current Employee Working with Children Check (WWCC)
