Shure continues to expand its wireless system product line, with the latest development being the SLX-D+, a new version of the popular SLX-D. At first glance, there doesn’t seem to be much of a difference but as I dove in, much was revealed.
The company recently sent me a new SLXD4QDAN+, a 4-channel receiver in a 1RU package. Also provided were two handheld transmitters with the wonderful sounding Nexadyne NX8 capsules (both the 8/C cardioid and the 8/S supercardioid), and two bodypack transmitters with lavalier microphones. The units were all operating in the G57 band. (More about that later.)
The SLXD4QDAN+ offers Dante integration, both XLR and 1/4-inch outputs (I keep meaning to try the bodypacks with a guitar cable), and a cascading antenna option. Three receivers can be linked together with BNC cables without the need for antenna distribution systems.
The package includes rack ears that aren’t attached; I guess some folks prefer setting the receiver on a table top. But I attached the rack ears, mounted the included BNC connectors, and used two of the four included BNC cables to connect to the antenna in on the back of the unit. I was pleased that there was a second pair of cable, in case I wanted to cascade – little touches like that impress my jaded veteran sensibilities. Then I immediately mounted it in a rack. (In my various adventures over the years, I’ve learned the hard way about putting something like that off.)
