The Grand Ballroom at Sofitel Melbourne is one of Melbourne’s most prestigious and flexible event spaces. Capable of operating as one large room or dividing into three separate zones via operable walls, the ballroom hosts a wide range of high-end corporate events, conferences, weddings, and product launches.
THE CHALLENGE
The previous projection-based vision system required extensive labour and time to set up, with limited flexibility when reconfiguring the room. Building truss, flying large screens, and blending projectors was slow and labour-intensive. The hotel needed a permanent, high-impact visual solution that could quickly adapt between one 18m-wide screen and three separate 6m screens, while delivering superior brightness, colour saturation, and reliability demanded by today’s discerning clients.
THE FIX
NAS supplied and integrated an 18m Absen NT2.6 Pro V2 LED wall, engineered for fast reconfiguration. The system is mounted on a custom German-made monorail track with high-capacity trolleys, allowing the three 6m screens (totalling nearly 1.5 tonnes) to be smoothly repositioned. Advanced Novastar processing (H Series and Pixel Hue P20) enables seamless switching between configurations with up to 12 presets. The rental-grade NT2.6 Pro V2 panels were chosen for their durability, lightweight design, and outstanding visual performance.
THE RESULT
The new Absen LED system has transformed the Grand Ballroom. What once took hours of setup and multiple crew members can now be reconfigured in under an hour. The wall delivers exceptional brightness, colour accuracy, and pixel-perfect clarity in both single-room and multi-room modes. Clients are impressed by the visual impact, while the in-house AV team benefits from dramatically reduced labour and faster room turnarounds. The installation has already increased the venue’s appeal and competitiveness in Melbourne’s premium events market.
