Bush to Bay Festival with Rockstar Productions

After a long concert hiatus Rockstar Productions, based in Beenleigh QLD, supplied production, sound and lighting for the annual Bush to Bay Festival held in Hervey Bay

With an awesome lineup including Lee Kernaghan, the fans came out in huge numbers this year to support live music.

Rockstar Productions has done the previous four Bush to Bay Festivals supplying all their own gear and operators.

“This year was very different as Lee’s technical requirements are quite specific,” said John Yost of Rockstar Productions. “Lee’s team used a separate dedicated crew and in ears monitor system with DiGiCo SD console along with their Avid Profile at FOH, all supplied from Norwest.

“Ray Moss from Norwest led Kernaghan’s tech team and was awesome to coordinate with on this event. Lee’s team also supplied projection for his performance. Their lighting console was a Chamsys, operated by one of the nicest blokes in the industry, Michael Montgomery-Williams.”

Rockstar’s biggest challenge was coordinating/patching all the different technical monitoring elements on a small stage with short changeover times. The tech wing was as big as a stage with three monitor consoles, wireless systems, vision and backline sharing the same space. Another challenge was fitting enough lights into the stage truss grid with weight limitations.

Gear wise, Rockstar aims to use their in-house stock tailored for the audience size, music style and of course event budget, that they feel will deliver the sound and visual to a high standard. This event was no exception.

Some of their gear they had out for this event:

DLive C3500 console although this was in backup position with the Profile handling the day.
Eight Crown ITECH amps powering the system.
Eight JBL vtx V20 line array elements (ground stack on this one)
Six JBL vtx S25 subs
Two JBL vtx F18 subs
Allen & Heath SQ6 running the stage monitors
EAW MW12 wedges
Avolites Quartz
Four Tourpro ST3000 Strobes
Four Event Lighting LED Blinders (great audience blinders with low power requirement)
Four ShowPRO LED Fresnels on the front wash
Acme XA400 spots, from Steve at AU Music, (one of the best spots in the industry and easy on the stage truss at 20kg)
LiteLees BigEyes Movers

Rockstar Crew
Sean Mulcahy, Systems & FOH
Matt Cutless, Monitors & Stage
Am Saluta, Lighting
Selwyn Connell, Stage
John Yost

There was more additional crew on the day that was integral to Lee’s and other bands techs.

“Our first big outdoor concert event since the industry shut down in March 2020,” remarked John. “It felt good to dust off the cobwebs. Let’s Rock On!”
