Your Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Event Safety Specialist to support the safe and compliant delivery of our diverse operational activities, including live performances, productions, venue operations, maintenance works and major events.
This is a unique opportunity to apply your safety expertise within one of Australia’s leading performing arts centres. Working closely with operational leaders, production teams, contractors and visiting companies, you will play a critical role in embedding practical risk management solutions and fostering a strong safety culture across a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Reporting to the Head of Safety, you will:
- Provide operational WHS support across event delivery, production services, venue operations and maintenance activities.
- Partner with managers, supervisors, employees, contractors and visiting companies to promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with QPAC’s WHS Management System.
- Lead and support operational safety projects, procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Conduct workplace inspections, safety observations and compliance activities to verify the effectiveness of risk controls and safe systems of work.
- Support rehearsals, performances, bump-ins, bump-outs, maintenance activities and training programs with practical safety advice and oversight.
- Lead incident and hazard investigations, identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor safety trends and identify opportunities to proactively prevent incidents and improve performance.
- Conduct internal audits and assurance activities to assess compliance with legislation, regulations, codes of practice and organisational requirements.
- Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and workplace coaching to build safety capability across the business.
- Represent the Safety Team at operational meetings, production planning forums and working groups.
- Promote innovation and continuous improvement in safety systems, workplace practices, equipment and employee wellbeing.
About You
You are a collaborative and solutions focused safety professional who enjoys working closely with operational teams. You thrive in dynamic environment and can confidently balance safety, compliance and operational requirements while building strong stakeholder relationships.
You will bring:
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (or equivalent)
- Experience in Workplace Health and Safety within the theatre, performing arts, live entertainment, production or similar event environments.
- Current First Aid Certificate, including Provide First Aid and Perform CPR competencies.
- Strong ability to identify hazards, assess risks and implement practical control measures.
- Proven experience investigating incidents and developing recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
- Demonstrated capability to solve problems, influence stakeholders and implement safety improvements within tight operational timeframes.
- Well developed written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, presentations and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to successfully obtain and maintain a clear National Police Check.
Availability Requirements
As QPAC operates seven days a week and beyond standard business hours, this is not a traditional Monday to Friday role. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays is required to support performances, events, and other operational requirements.
