PROLIGHTS Eclipse for SA Museum

The South Australian Museum has invested in 20 x PROLIGHTS LED Eclipse RGBW ellipsoidal luminaires and 30 x PROLIGHTS LED Mini Eclipse primarily for speciality lighting. This purchase is part of an initiative the SA Museum is activating to replace their halogen lighting with LED fixtures.

As a part of the ShowPRO range, The PROLIGHTS Eclipse is a compact LED ellipsoidal luminaire designed for the gallery, product and shop window lighting that features a beautiful controllable beam and stunning aesthetics. It also features 19° to 36° on-board zoom with full shutters, high CRI source and wireless DMX control options.

“They are great for framing objects and panels as well as lighting specific objects in display cabinets,” commented Tom Pyrzakowski, Design Officer for the South Australian Museum. “Most of the other lights we have are simply washes or spots so we couldn’t block out certain areas. It’s really quite a new thing for us to be using DMX-controlled lighting.”

Tom said that the Eclipse fixtures have been great for interactive displays and dynamic lighting where colour changing may be required.

“Or it may be to set the environment and use gobos with the Wireless DMX and a couple of controllers to make the display even more dynamic,” he added. “We’re really looking forward to discovering the possibilities the Eclipse lights offer and we’re going to try to integrate the lighting a little bit more at every exhibition.”

Tom further remarked that the light output of the Eclipse is impressive and especially useful for some of the lighter galleries.

“Of course we love the 19° to 36° zoom and that adaptability is very handy,” said Tom. “The Wireless DMX is great as it means we can move the lights to wherever we want. Museums don’t usually have RGB lighting so that has been very exciting. We currently have a Barrier Reef exhibit where we use the RGB lighting to display coral; it’s red when it’s alive, then it goes white to show a bleached state and finally it turns an off-green when the coral is dead.”

The smaller PROLIGHTS Eclipse Mini profile features a compact design with a sharp beam, interchangeable lenses and full shuttering, making them ideal for a gallery or museum lighting where space is tight. They are easy to use, have precise optics, sharp image projection and a bright, even projection. With a colour temperature of 3100K, they are the perfect fixture for museums, galleries, hotels and house of worship.
