Upwey High School is a secondary school located in Upwey, Victoria. The school had been looking for a retractable seating system for its new multi-function hall. Phantos was able to custom-design and supply the motorized system to suit the school’s needs and colour scheme.
Retractable seating consists of rows of multiple tiers/layers of seating platforms, that can be retracted into a closed position that will take up less space when not in use.
The seating system has 372 specially designed folding seats, made of high-quality plastic comprised of seven rows. The rows are neatly spaced at a distance of 90CM from each other, providing good leg space for users. Each row consists of yellow and black coloured folding seats divided into four sections, separated by three 1.2M wide aisle steps. These steps enable orderly movement without disturbing other spectators. The low profile plastic seats suit well to a school environment because they are easy to clean and hard to damage. The replacement cost of these plastic seats would be considerably lower compared to an upholstered seat if any of them are damaged.
The 18 steps on the aisles are numbered and have been integrated with non-skid treads and glow strips. This helps the incoming audience members to navigate through the seats in dark or low light situations.
At both sides, there are self-storing rails bolted in position and retract with the seats into the deck, ensuring that the rails are in place at all times for spectator safety. This eliminates the need to manually set up each rail. These self-storing rails have a black powder-coat finish and are equipped with side skirting.
The seats can be closed in a folded down position for storage when not in use. When fully retracted, the seating system appears flat from the front and stacked tiers with seats hidden under each row, freeing up a large amount of space. The length of the bank is approximately 30M including the self-storing rails. The entire system can be operated by a wall mount control cabinet or with a wireless handheld controller.
Retractable seating systems are perfect for school multi-function halls, church auditoriums, function canters, theatres etc. They help to reduce the need to manually set up and pack down, hundreds of seats, save a lot of storage space and most importantly free up the floor space for other activities such as sports, celebration dinners and other functions.
The Melody M1 seating system comes with a 10-year local warranty from PHANTOS. The system is fully customizable to various floor spaces, and different types of seats, as well as colour options, are available.
