NEXO GEO M6 for W Melbourne

Gracing Melbourne’s CBD with 294 contemporary guestrooms and suites, W Melbourne is one of Victoria’s newest luxury destinations. Representing $1.25b of luxury real estate as part of the Collins Arch development project, W Melbourne features five restaurants and bars, as well as premium function spaces. Taking pride of place amongst these spaces is the hotel’s ‘Great Room’, a 426sqm pillarless ballroom suffused in natural light.

With a focus on corporate events, weddings, entertainment, and conventions, the Great Room was in need of a sound reinforcement system capable of delivering exceptional audio, whilst remaining physically and visually unobtrusive. Microhire, one of Australia’s largest corporate events and staging companies, provided the perfect solution in the form of NEXO’s GEO M6.

GEO M6 is a compact line array series featuring an outstanding size to power ratio. The system’s ability to deliver pristine, full-range sound whilst remaining unnoticed has solidified it as many installer’s top preference in a variety of fixed installation scenarios. The visual impact of the GEO M6 system is subtle, thanks to its compact design and elegant internal rigging system, whilst the acoustic technology underpinning its operation helps it live up to NEXO’s world-renowned sonic performance.

Well-versed in the technical minutiae of live events, Microhire’s production experts chose the GEO M6 system for its ability to meet and exceed W Melbourne’s audio requirements- a critical aspect to ensuring all hires of the ‘Great Room’ deliver an exceptional experience.

“We required a system that was elegant and discrete by design, while still providing the SPL and frequency response to cover a wide range of applications. When a space like this doesn’t have a PA up to task, we’ve had to transport in a separate system, set it up and pack it down. Having the NEXO rig onsite alleviates all this effort, meaning clients can come in and the in-house system already has the power required to comfortably drive their event,” explains Patrick Dinsmore, Microhire’s National Production Manager.

Jamie Hughes, Group General Manager at Microhire, says expanding on their NEXO selection was an easy decision: “Having already owned both PS and GEO series NEXO products, adding to the NEXO family for the Great Room was an obvious choice. The physical weight and size offers us great flexibility when changing the room layout, as the system is easily moved by just one person.”

“We’re confident the GEO M6 system will be a reliable asset in our setup here at W Melbourne, and the benefits of having NEXO’s Australian distributor, Group Technologies, here in Melbourne means we also have excellent local support.”
