Lecturer – Sound

WAAPA is an internationally renowned performing arts training institution within Edith Cowan University. Alumni from all of our courses are found in a multitude of roles within the international arts and cultural industries, from performers to composers, songwriters, producers and artistic curators. Production and Design training at WAAPA is designed to facilitate collaboration across genres and empower students with the range of skills needed to succeed in today’s industry.

Students develop skills and knowledge in sound for live performance, The course is structured to provide students with the skills and experience consistent with the growing needs of the entertainment industry.

The program offers a blend of Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Higher Education (HE) Bachelor courses which allows students to increase their academic qualifications with further study.

The Role
The WAAPA Production discipline is looking to attract a highly motivated and dynamic individual who is an experienced practitioner and teacher in sound technology & design.

The key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Teaching duties – the delivery of quality education and training to both VET and HE students, using a variety of learning environments, delivery strategies and delivery methods.
  • Providing program advice, development, and maintenance of training programs and learning resources, the embedding of new technologies and techniques, and the identification of industry/community requirements in relation to the delivery of programs.
  • Planning, preparation, marking and making professional decisions associated with the delivery and assessment of modules/units within the lecturer’s teaching program.
  • Ensuring a customer-focused approach.
  • Exercising due duty of care in dealings with students, clients and other staff members.
  • Liaising with sessional staff members who contribute to the sound program.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to promote interdisciplinary approaches to pedagogy.
  • Engaging with University software and systems.
  • Undertaking appropriate staff development to maintain currency of knowledge and skills in areas of expertise.

Selection Criteria:

  • PhD, Masters degree or equivalent professional credentials.
  • Ability to coordinate, develop and teach units at both VET and Bachelor levels in sound production and design. Commitment to and demonstrated achievement of excellence in teaching.
  • Ability to engage with community and industry to enhance teaching and learning within the department.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work constructively and collaboratively with colleagues in furthering the aims of the school.
  • At least five years of vocational experience relevant to the industrial vocation or professional field relevant to this position.
  • VET qualifications will need to be attained prior to commencement (CERT IV TAE).

The successful candidate will also benefit from having skills in:

  • Sound production, design, recording and editing
  • Industry related software, including ProTools and Sibelius
  • Sound system engineering and design
  • Analogue and digital sound desks
  • Live audio mixing for performance
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Asset management and project management skills

Benefits & Remuneration
This full-time, ongoing position attracts a remuneration of $105,832 to $125,043 PA (ALEVB) plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
