Hunter Valley Grammar School is an independent, non-selective, non-denominational, coeducational day school for students from Preschool – Year 12.

A major part of Hunter Valley Grammar’s school year is the annual drama productions and school musicals with the students performing in varying shows. Recently the school came to Showtools International looking to upgrade its lighting that would provide different colours and looks for these productions. The school was very impressed with the CHAUVET Professional range of fixtures, in particular the Ovation and Rogue ranges. After careful consideration, Hunter Valley Grammar decided to acquire 12x Rogue R2X Washes and 8x Ovation E-910FC ellipsoidals.
“The new CHAUVET Rogue R2X wash lights and CHAUVET Ovation E910 FC profiles lights have been installed into our drama studio and our performing arts hall,” stated Sophie Botta from Hunter Valley Grammar.
Sophie explained the decision to upgrade with CHAUVET Professional, “The previous rig was all conventional lighting and we wanted to upgrade to LED for a few reasons. Firstly, the functionality and diversity that the LEDs we bought have are a big selling point.
The Rogue R2X Washes are a bright, powerful light and offers five zones of LED control to pixel map its 19 (25 W) RGBW quad-LEDs. The Ovation E-910FC is a high-performance ERS-style fixture with full RGBA-Lime colour mixing and Colour Temperature presets of 2800 to 6500 K that match the output of a tungsten source to perfection. “The colours and output are perfect for subtle atmospheric changes, and we can use the E-910FCs several different ways,” said Sophie.
Sophie stated how the fixtures would benefit Hunter Valley Grammar, “The hall is used for everything from assemblies and plays to symphony concerts. We needed fixtures that could work in a large array of settings and the CHAUVET Professional fixtures provide that. The LED fixtures also have good savings with regards to electricity!
Sophie concluded, “Lastly, our student production crew are keen and eager to learn. Giving them an environment that is more like the “real world” is a far bigger benefit to them. We have bought the same consoles across the campus so that students can design shows at home, bring the file in and away they go. The new lighting rig means the shows they’re programming are able to be really exciting! We have our school production coming up in a few weeks and three senior students will be the lighting designers for each of the three plays!”
Thanks to the recent upgrade of CHAUVET Professional fixtures, Hunter Valley Grammar now have a lighting rig that would enable them to provide a different dimension and upgraded look to all of its school musicals and productions.
