Since opening to the public in 2006, the Australian Outback Spectacular has played host to a staggering 2.5 million guests across thousands of individual performances. In the current iteration of the show, Outback Spectacular’s Heartland, guests embark alongside true Australian characters on a compelling and emotional journey to the bush heartland of Australia.
The show makes use of an incredibly sophisticated technical installation that encompasses immersive audio, intelligent lighting and blended projection. Alongside live animals, special effects and other practical technologies, the arena venue is transferred into a captivating theatrical experience like no other.
In 2021-22 the venue executed a lighting control upgrade which included a complete overhaul of its DMX distribution infrastructure. One of the key objectives of this overhaul was to move all DMX routing to a uniform IP based solution, thereby removing a mix of hardline copper DMX and ageing Artnet nodes.
DMXking hardware, provided by Latarka, was exclusively used for this upgrade. eDMX4 PRO nodes were distributed throughout the lighting grid to supply DMX data directly to fixtures while eDMX4 PRO DIN nodes were installed throughout control cabinets for Projection Equipment and Special Effects.
“POE and the compact footprint of the nodes allowed for easy deployment on a limited time schedule” commented the venue’s technical staff, adding that “the extremely simple user interface of the DMXKing software allowed for rapid configuration and commission, which was important to us as no extended downtime was allowed for the upgrade to take place.”
