Assistant Exhibitions & Collections Technicians (Casual), National Gallery of Victoria

VPS 2.1.4: $30.86 per hour plus 9.5% superannuation

Our Exhibitions and Collections Operations department regularly requires the services of Assistant Exhibitions and Collections Technicians to support the permanent team through the installing and lighting of both artworks and display support material for a range of exhibitions, events, collection displays, collection management activities and programs.

To be an effective member of the Exhibitions and Collections Operations team, you must be able to demonstrate an aptitude and sound knowledge of:

  • the technical methods of art handling;
  • international museum standard exhibition lighting;
  • event/theatrical lighting;
  • carpentry/construction/tool usage;
  • installation of display support materials;
  • conservation best practice standards.

Proven experience in any/all of the above will be considered along with demonstrating the ability to acquire new knowledge, skills, and techniques, as required.

Experience in mount making, silver solder and/or welding experience would be advantageous.  The possession of a current class “LF” Work Cover forklift license, a scissor lift operating ticket, an endorsed truck licence and a current Australian drivers licence and/or a rigging ticket would be advantageous.

The lifting and movement of heavy objects is an inherent requirement of these positions, therefore the preferred candidates will be required to undergo a functional pre-employment assessment.
