A state-of-the-art Performing Arts Auditorium has enhanced St Catherine’s School’s existing performing arts curriculum by providing a facility that integrates the operational mechanics of modern-day theatre with a world-class performance venue.
The design is a traditional proscenium arch theatre including an orchestra pit for approximately 30 and guest seating for more than 500. The stage is 10m deep with 5m wide wings and the incorporation of a fly tower ensures students learn about stagecraft and the role of the fly crew within a safe working environment.
“A motorised fly system and two lighting bridges are designed to allow the school to use them for training students if they wish,” commented Micah Johnson of Marshall Day Entertech, theatre consultants for the project. “The lighting, audio and video all run from an internet-based control system however they also use analogue technology with patch bays for lighting to give the students experience with a mix of technologies. This way, they’re exposed to everything they may experience out in the field whilst also being exposed to cutting edge technology.”
HME supplied and installed all of the theatre machinery including the hoists, motorised fly system and control system, cable management to the hoists, control and safety systems as well as drapery.

Performance-based back-of-house facilities including change rooms and a green room will support the learning experience derived from the performing arts.
