Technical Operations Manager

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Technical Operations Manager leads Museums Victoria’s multimedia, lighting and presentation technologies, ensuring reliable operations and the delivery of innovative digital experiences across all venues.

This role is accountable for the leadership and day-to-day operations of the Technical Services Operations team, managing specialist staff, systems and resources that support exhibitions, events and public programs. It oversees the development and operation of audio-visual systems, digital signage and integrated control systems, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and high-quality visitor experiences.

The position also contributes to strategic planning and budget management and provides expert technical advice to the Technical Director while working closely with internal stakeholders, external partners and industry networks.

Some of the key duties include: 

  • Lead and manage a technical team delivering operational support across all venues
  • Oversee multimedia, lighting and presentation technologies, ensuring reliable and safe performance
  • Manage technical assets, maintenance programs and lifecycle planning
  • Develop and implement operational plans, policies and procedures
  • Monitor emerging technologies to support innovation and continuous improvement
  • Manage service requests, stakeholder enquiries and operational priorities
  • Oversee budgets, procurement and resource allocation
  • Support exhibitions and projects through technical planning and coordination
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements


The successful applicant will have:

  • Experience leading technical teams in complex operational environments
  • Strong expertise in multimedia and presentation technologies, including AV and control systems
  • Proven ability to manage technical operations, assets and service delivery
  • Sound project, budget and resource management skills
  • Ability to apply emerging technologies to improve systems and experiences
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Understanding of safety, risk and compliance requirements


OTHER INFORMATION

This is a Full time, ongoing position. The salary on offer is a VPS5.1 Base salary of $113,022 per annum (pro rata) plus 12% superannuation, increasing to $116,413 per annum from 1st May 2026.

The successful applicant is required to undergo a National Police Records Check and Working with Children Check and be assessed as suitable (new employees are required to meet this cost).
