About the role
We’re seeking Casual Technical Assistants to support the delivery of performances, events and venue hires across Theatre North’s venues.
Working under the direction of the Technical Manager and technical team, you’ll assist with productions, commercial events and community activities through the operation of lighting, audio, staging and audiovisual equipment, venue preparation and production support.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working behind the scenes, thrives in a team environment and takes pride in delivering exceptional experiences for artists, hirers and audiences.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with the delivery of productions, performances, commercial events and venue hires.
- Operate lighting, audio, staging and audiovisual equipment within the scope of your training and competency.
- Support rehearsals, performances, bump-ins, bump-outs and venue changeovers.
- Prepare technical equipment and performance spaces to meet event requirements.
- Assist artists, touring companies and hirers during rehearsals and performances.
- Maintain safe work practices and report equipment faults or hazards.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the smooth delivery of events and exceptional customer service.
About you
You’re a reliable and enthusiastic team player with an interest in live events, technical production or the performing arts.
You’ll bring:
- Experience or a genuine interest in technical production, live events, theatre or entertainment.
- The ability to operate, or a willingness to learn, lighting, audio, staging and audiovisual systems.
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
- The physical capacity to safely undertake manual handling and production activities.
- A current Working with Vulnerable People registration.
Experience in live theatre, concerts, festivals or event production, along with relevant licences or technical qualifications, will be highly regarded.
