About the Role
QPAC is seeking an experienced Head Technician – Audio Visual (Audio) to join our Production Services team.
In this role, you will lead and supervise Audio Visual (Audio) functions across multiple venues, delivering professional, client?focused technical services to venue hirers and internal QPAC stakeholders. You will provide hands?on leadership in a live performance environment, ensuring audio services are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest professional standards. This role combines strong technical capability with people leadership, collaboration and a practical, solutions focused approach to live production delivery.
In this role you will:
- Deliver exceptional customer service to internal and external clients
- Lead and supervise large teams of audio technicians across multiple venues in a hands?on live performance environment
- Supervise and actively participate in the set?up, operation, pack?down, and maintenance of audio?visual equipment and installations
- Plan, program, design, and operate digital mixing consoles and audio systems for live performances to a high professional standard
- Interpret sound designs, technical requirements, and specifications, ensuring appropriate technical resources are delivered in a cost?effective manner
- Support visiting companies and internal teams to integrate productions into venue?specific systems
- Contribute to the effective operation of the Audio Visual Department and Production Services Unit through production meetings, business planning, and day?to?day operational activities
- Support the mentoring, development, and on?the?job training of Senior Technicians and Technicians
- Contribute to equipment maintenance planning and renewal programs
- Actively support QPAC’s work health and safety requirements at all times
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for:
- Proven industry experience and people leadership capability within live production environments (essential)
- A minimum of five years’ experience in senior audio or technical roles
- Trade or tertiary qualifications in a relevant technical field (highly regarded)
- Touring or commercial theatre experience within the performing arts industry (desirable)
- Demonstrated experience with industry?standard audio systems and technologies, including DiGiCo and Yamaha consoles, Dante, MADI, Optocore, L?Acoustics and Meyer
- Strong working knowledge of audio network and control systems such as, Network Manager, SoundVision, Smaart, Mapp 3D, Qlab and QSYS
- A calm, hands?on leadership style that supports collaboration, mentoring and effective team delivery
- Strong problem solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing production requirements
The hours of work will be primarily theatre based with some maintenance and office work. Availability will be required for day, evening and weekend hours and for extended periods to service hirer’s schedules. You may be required to work more than thirty-eight (38) hours per week, however approved penalty and overtime rates are applicable.
