Senior Technician

Join the team at the Mackay Entertainment & Convention Centre (MECC) and play a key role in delivering outstanding live performances, conferences, community events and productions. As our Senior Technician, you’ll help lead the technical delivery of a diverse range of events, ensuring exceptional experiences for performers, clients and audiences alike.

Reporting to the Technical Services Coordinator, you’ll be responsible for supporting and managing the technical delivery of productions and events across lighting, audio, vision, staging and venue systems.

You’ll work closely with operational and technical teams to ensure events are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the planning and delivery of productions, events and venue operations.
  • Providing technical expertise across lighting, audio, audiovisual and staging systems.
  • Assisting with the maintenance and upkeep of technical equipment and venue facilities.
  • Leading and supervising technicians, contractors and suppliers as required.
  • Contributing to safety processes, operational procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting project and event delivery within agreed scope, time and quality outcomes.
  • Undertaking Venue Supervisor responsibilities as rostered.


About You

You are an experienced entertainment or events professional with a strong technical background and a passion for delivering exceptional productions.

You will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in technical production, including lighting and/or audio consoles, audiovisual systems and staging equipment.
  • Practical experience in entertainment rigging.
  • Strong knowledge of technical production systems used for live performances and business events.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven ability to organise workloads, prioritise tasks and support team performance.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and other workplace systems.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and workplace safety.


Essential Requirements

  • Working with Children Blue Card.
  • Queensland “C” Class Driver Licence (or interstate equivalent).
  • Willingness to undertake a Criminal History Check.
  • Availability to work a rotating roster across any five (5) days from seven (7), including regular evening and weekend work.


Desirable

  • Qualifications in Technical Production or a related field.
  • Working at Heights, Forklift or Basic Rigging licences.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience with theatre flying systems.
  • Experience as a Duty Technician or Venue Supervisor.
  • Experience with Grand MA, AVID, Dante, NDI systems and CAD software.
