Automation, safety, and spectacle sit at the core of Australian Outback Spectacular, and for more than seven years, TSA has supported Australian Outback Spectacular by delivering the technical expertise, performer flying systems, and backstage reliability that keep the show running smoothly. This case study explores how that long-term partnership strengthens production, enhances safety, and ensures every performance lands exactly as it should.
A LONG-RUNNING PARTNERSHIP
Built on Trust, Expertise, and Showmanship.
Every night, hundreds of lights, cables, and motors move in perfect synchrony to bring the magic of Australian Outback Spectacular to life. Behind that precision is a partnership nearly a decade in the making – one built on trust, expertise, and a shared love of the craft.
A BIT OF HISTORY
A spectacular show, and an impressive run
Running for over 19 years and with more than 4,000 performances, Australian Outback Spectacular has become a true Gold Coast icon. Known for its storytelling, horsemanship, and large-scale theatrical effects, it continues to captivate audiences across Australia.
Behind the scenes is a close -knit technical team whose commitment keeps the show running safely and smoothly night after night. For the past seven years, TSA has proudly supported that team —helping the show evolve, adapt, and stay at the forefront of performance technology.
OUR ROLE
Supporting automation, flying effects, and complex movement
TSA first joined the Outback Spectacular story in 2017, providing servicing and
inspections for the automation systems. What began as technical support soon developed into a full partnership, as TSA took on ongoing maintenance, system upgrades, and control systems development to keep the show’s complex effects running reliably and efficiently.
Today, TSA manages and services:
• Five performer flying rigs
• An automated masking curtain system
• A full -scale helicopter that flies the length of the arena via a cable winch and track
system
That helicopter remains one of the show’s most iconic moments. The system also outputs live data to synchronise with projection elements in real time, seamlessly blending physical and digital effects.
“We’re here doing things that involve risk –so we mitigate every risk we can, so the magic can happen safely.”
~ David Fish, TSA Operations Director
SHARED PASSION & RELIABILITY
Why TSA Supporting Australian Outback Spectacular Matters
With performances running year -round, maintenance doesn’t stop at annual servicing. The TSA team returns regularly for callouts, harness checks, cable replacements, and performer training—always ensuring the systems are ready for showtime.
One example: TSA was called in for a 2 am system lockout, spending hours troubleshooting and restoring automation just in time for a private event the next morning. This is the kind of behind-the-scenes dedication that defines TSA’s approach: reliable, responsive, and deeply invested in the success of every show.
EVOLVING WITH THE SHOW
Growing alongside new technology, Technical Supervisor Adam Moir, who has been with AOS for more than 2,500 shows, has seen how TSA’s support has shaped the production.
From emergency callouts to full automation overhauls, the relationship between TSA and AOS reflects what happens when innovation and trust meet.
“TSA has always been there when we needed them, and even when we didn’t. They’ve always come through.”
~ Adam Moir, AOS Technical Supervisor
EMPOWERING PERFORMERS
Confidence through training and safety
Safety and performer confidence go hand in hand. When new cast members join the flying team, TSA guides them through every step —from harness fittings to safety
procedures and emergency scenarios.
“Being in one of these harnesses is actually safer than being on a rollercoaster.”
—David Fish
This reassurance empowers performers to take flight with confidence, knowing their safety is supported by both expertise and experience.
