TECHNICAL MANAGER 

Full time Fixed Term position 

Location: Northbridge, Perth 

Remuneration: $80,000 – $90,000 p.a + Super + ARTRAGE Passholder Benefits

For forty years, ARTRAGE has developed and presented numerous key cultural events and festivals including the much-loved Rooftop Movies (est. 2012), Girls School Cinema (est. 2018), Rooftop Encore (est 2022) and FRINGE WORLD Festival (est. 2011).

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Technical Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth, safe and efficient operation of all technical aspects across all ARTRAGE activations. 

Reporting to the Head of Production and Operations, The Technical Manager will oversee and implement all ARTRAGE technical operations, providing technical expertise and support to all staff, artists, and suppliers.   

Leading a team consisting of Technical Coordinators, Technical Site Managers, Venue Technicians and Stage Managers, the position requires a strong background in technical production and a keen eye for detail.   

ROLE DUTIES 

  • Ensure the production of all shows by producing venue plans, rehearsal schedules and technical schedules for the festival including the provision of staff, equipment, feedback, facilities, and resources during build, operations, and pack down of all activations.   
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and ensure prompt resolution to minimise performance disruption.   
  • Oversee tracking of all ARTRAGE equipment.   
  • Produce, manage, and distribute documents for reportage from Staff and Contractors.   
  • Liaise with visiting companies, promoters, producers, and hirers on providing relevant services and equipment within the bounds and restrictions of the activations, associated venue, and allocated budget.     
  • Manage new and existing relationships with lighting, sound, and other technical equipment suppliers.   
  • Oversee the technical budget expenditure as set by the Head of Production and Operations and ensure it is appropriate, within budget, and cost effective.   
  • Work with other Departments to ensure that all employees, artists and companies are risk assessed and compliance with certificates, licensing requirements and OSH. 
  • Respond and mitigate any additional risks throughout the performance season.   
  • Process invoices and produce an accurate financial report at the close of the season. 
  • Seek and devise methods to minimise the environmental impact of the festival and improve overall sustainability. 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS  

  • Proven experience in Technical Management within the performing arts or events industry.  
  • In depth knowledge of technical production elements, including lighting, staging, sound and audio-visual equipment.  
  • Proficiency in relevant software and technical systems commonly used in the industry.   
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.   
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.   
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.   
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.   
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements and the ability to ensure compliance.
