We are looking for Senior Venue Technicians to join our fantastic Technical team. Hourly rates of pay will be determined by qualifications, skills and experience:
SEA Level 5 – $33.99 OR SEA Level 6 – $36.25
The Position
Senior Venue Technicians are engaged to deliver a range of technical and event operations to meet the needs of a multi-purpose precinct.
All Technicians are expected to deliver these services in a professional, safe and efficient manner whilst always supporting a cohesive team environment.
The Team
The Technical Department is an in-house team delivering full facilities for traditional style theatre productions, corporate functions, outdoor productions & events across a range of versatile venues.
The Department is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day technical operations of the precinct are delivered at the highest level and to industry standard.
From early 2021, the department will also provide a level of shared services to the HOTA Gallery; a AAA rated gallery designed to present art indoors and out, making HOTA a must-see cultural destination.
Key Responsibilities
- To facilitate the technical production activities of incoming professional and non-professional organisations using at HOTA
- To undertake specialised tasks and functions across technical, production and event services, in known or changing contexts relating to live entertainment delivery and art installations indoor and outdoor
- To ensure the proper use, care and first line maintenance of all HOTA equipment
- To keep all production areas in a safe, clean and tidy condition and to positively drive the housekeeping standards of HOTA
- To provide supervision, guidance and support for all casual & freelance staff in safe working practices and the running of events
- Understand, adopt and comply with all HOTA WH&S procedures and operational policies to ensure HOTA service delivery is of the highest safety standards
- Bring a collaborative predisposition to interactions with both client and colleagues and always lead by example to reflect the values of the organisation
Commitment to and the flexibility to work hours as determined by the business across a 7-day roster. This will include working evenings, night work and weekends.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Previous experience working in a similar role
- Relevant qualifications
- Ability to adapt to new technologies with a desire to develop technical skills across a range of work areas (eg AAA rated Gallery tech operations)
- Experience of working in professional entertainment and corporate settings
- Knowledge of industry-related Health and Safety
- Experience of leading casual and freelance staff
- Experience of being responsible for the safe and efficient use of equipment
- Experience of working in a busy, flexible, multi-venue facility
- Experience of working with a variety of promoters and corporate clients and providing excellent customer service skills
- Excellent presentation skills
- Excellent team-building skills
- Excellent client liaison skills
- Excellent organisational skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proven ability to manage under pressure and work to targets and tight deadlines

- Fitness to work in what is a physically demanding position including working at heights. Safe lifting and movement of heavy objects is an inherent requirement of the position and therefore the applicant is required to be physically fit. This position will require frequent bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, gripping, standing, walking, lifting (up to 30kg – utilizing correct manual handling techniques / two person lifts / using trolleys etc), carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping
- Licenses might include – forklift, EWP ticket, scissor lift, scaffold and rig licenses, tag and test, restricted electrical training, First Aid Certificate
