Reflections of Winter, produced by Resolution X, is playing nightly as part of Sovereign Hill’s hugely popular Winter Wonderlights, running throughout the Victorian June and July school holidays.
Located around the dam in the heart of the museum precinct, the new 8-minute experience takes guests on an immersive journey of light, reflection and music. Set to a custom-composed soundtrack, the still waters of the dam become a living canvas as light dances across the water, surrounding trees and landscape.
More than 300 fully outdoor-rated lighting fixtures have been deployed across the site, including the ShowPRO Raytheon FC Strobe, ShowPRO Neptune Superbeam and, as the hero fixture of the production, the incredibly versatile EK Lights LT6. The entire installation is controlled on grandMA3, with full remote monitoring provided via Resolution X’s proprietary XConnect software, allowing the team to monitor the production in real time and ensure the show runs like clockwork every night.
Outdoor winter productions present unique challenges, particularly in Ballarat where temperatures regularly approach freezing and equipment is exposed to moisture for weeks on end.
“We have fixtures sitting just inches from the water in a pretty harsh Ballarat winter,” comments Jamie Russell, General Manager “Lesser fixtures simply wouldn’t survive these conditions. Every product specified for this installation has been selected with longevity and reliability in mind, and the equipment from EK Lights continues to deliver exactly what we need.”
Delivering an installation of this scale requires extensive planning well before the first fixture arrives on site. Significant investment has been made in weatherproof power distribution, IP65 cabling and resilient control infrastructure to ensure the production performs night after night regardless of conditions.
Reflections of Winter marks Resolution X’s 12th outdoor winter installation this season alone, further cementing the company’s reputation as one of Australia’s leading producers and suppliers of large-scale outdoor lighting experiences.
Winter Wonderlights has become one of Victoria’s must-see winter events, combining spectacular projection mapping, snowfall on Main Street and immersive experiences throughout Sovereign Hill.
