Hennessy and the NBA unveiled Australia’s first floating basketball court on the scenic Sydney Harbour recently, with live music performances from ASAP Ferg and B Wise.
It follows Courts Beyond Limits first premiering in Australia in May 2021 with a takeover of Bondi’s Icebergs Ocean Pool, followed by pop-up courts in London and Shanghai.
The next iteration of “Courts Beyond Limits” by Hennessy, the Official Spirit of the National Basketball Association (NBA), will see a series of iconic court settings created around the world in celebration of the 2022 NBA Playoffs and the league’s landmark 75th Anniversary Season. Guests were escorted by a luxury superyacht to watch an All-Stars game.
A major part of the unique floating basketball court was the lighting that was used to illuminate the special structure. Jay Productions was contracted to provide lighting for the event. After recently purchasing the new CHAUVET Professional WELL STX 180 fixtures from supplier Showtools, they decided to utilize the fixtures for the floating basketball court.
“The WELL STX 180 is a dynamic freestanding, battery-operated, and outdoor-ready LED tube that emits 180° of ultra-bright, high-quality, pixel-mappable light with an optional stealth filter for a complete disappearing effect when off,” stated Jason Ghazal Managing Director of Jay Productions. “The designers were looking for eye-candy effect for such an iconic location and the WELL STX provides that with wireless control of 16 zones of the RGBWW LED’s which produces exceptional eye-candy effects with high CRI – so it will look as great on camera as it does in person.”
Jason explained the features that made the WELL STX the perfect fixtures for the court, “With the floating court being on the water, the WELL STX 180 is IP65 providing protection for any weather conditions which was ideal for the location. We placed the STX all around the court as well as a backdrop to ASAP Ferg and that is the benefit of the battery-powered lights; they can be oriented in any position so you can fully utilize the wireless freedom this fixture is capable of.”
Jason concluded, “The WELL STX matched the mood and atmosphere of the floating basketball court. The unit is also packaged as part of a complete kit that includes: 6 WELL STX 180, 12 Magnetic Brackets for attaching to steel surfaces, 6 eyebolts for suspended hanging options, 6 folding floor stands, 6 stealth black diffusers 1 IR Remote, and 1 ABS Plastic charging flight case making it efficient for transportation and charging of fixtures.”
