ZZCA Get Creative with LED Video Battens

A gorgeously delicious night of food, colour and fun with Event Emporium, Innovative Production, Sydney Dance Company LX and Production, and the wonderful talents of Darcy Cook and ZZCA was held at Sydney Dance Company Studio 5.

A central glossy table, surrounded by LG technology, was lit only by an incredible Martin Sceptron light sculpture hung directly above with Chauvet Well STX wireless LED tubes down the centre of the table.

The only other theatrical lighting in the venue was some specials for the host and chef when they spoke to the guests and a single fresnel to highlight a specific product in a special moment.

“It was refreshingly fun to light, no banners, logos to highlight, the products themselves all glowed in some way and created a basic soft ambience light throughout the room,” commented lighting designer Ziggy Ziegler.

Dark covers were used on the 17 x Well STX tubes, making them blend into the glossy table and surround, more like an architectural feature than event lighting. Various colour moods and eating lighting states were created with the 96 x Martin VDO Sceptron 1m tubes with frosted covers suspended above the audience. This custom sculpture was based on the shape of the new MOOD UP LG fridges, which have built-in LED lighting that can change colour according to various moods and time of day settings.

Rigging the sculpture was a long and very detailed adventure in itself, being done overnight into the wee hours of the morning, allowing minimal impact on ongoing regular dance classes that are held in this studio.

“Huge thanks to Innovative Lighting, Jeremy Koch and his amazing team, the Sydney Dance Company lighting and production team and Darcy Cook on the MA Lighting grandMA3 onPC wing for making this all happen and going the extra mile to get this up in time,” said Ziggy.

Ziggy added that the Martin VDO Sceptron LED units can produce a gorgeous range of colours and photograph well. Being able to represent the desired colours for the show and the client was important. Many of the photographers commented on how good they looked in the photos and wanted to know what they were.

“Simple, beautiful and fun, it was a night of evaporating foods, unicorn-flavoured desserts and delicious colours, he said. “It was one of the shows where all the crew, the client and the talent all clicked and had the best time. A real adventure in the dark filled with light. I loved it and smiled a lot!”
