Where the lights are: John Summit’s Tour in Full Focus

John Summit‘s recent Australian tour wasn’t just a series of concerts but an electrifying visual experience, perfectly complementing the world-renowned DJ’s dynamic performances across multiple sold-out venues. Following rapid ticket sell-outs and unprecedented demand, additional dates in Melbourne and Sydney were eagerly added, highlighting his rising star status, underscored by notable accolades including Forbes’ 30 Under 30 and Rolling Stone’s Future 25.

The production, expertly managed by PRG and Heavy Global, helmed by production manager Asher Luber, showcased sophisticated lighting arrangements utilising GLP and Chauvet fixtures supplied by Showtools International, elevating the visual experience throughout the entire tour to extraordinary levels.

Layered Light: How the X5 Bars Delivered Motion & Mood
Taking full advantage of the GLP Impression X5 IP Bars, the production team employed 60 units strategically beneath screens across venues to deliver a contemporary aesthetic. The IP65-rated bars, each fitted with 18 powerful 40W RGBL LEDs, excelled in creating dynamic, pixel-perfect lighting effects. The production notably utilised the twin-layer effects and seamless pixel pitch capabilities of the bars, allowing synchronised, fluid visual transitions that enhanced the cohesiveness and engagement of each show. Their patented fast-tilt motion further amplified these dynamic effects, highlighting the precise control capabilities of these fixtures.

Stage Spine: X4 Bars Animate the Core Truss
Complementing this, 68 x GLP Impression X4 Bar 20 SPIXH fixtures horizontal trussing arranged along the stage centre, orchestrating rhythmic flows of colour and movement that amplified the energy of Summit’s sets. Renowned for smooth colour blending, distinct pixel control, and swift motorised tilt, the X4 Bars provided striking visuals ranging from narrow, precise beams to broad, immersive washes. This versatility, enhanced by their 7° to 50° zoom range, allowed designers to create visually arresting patterns harmonising perfectly with the music’s beats and drops.

Behind the Screen, Beyond the Expected: the Color Strike effect
64 Chauvet Color Strike M fixtures added another layer of excitement, significantly enhancing the electrifying ambience across the tour. Over 30 of these IP65-rated hybrid strobe and wash lights were creatively positioned behind LED screens at various venues, delivering vivid interplay between video content and lighting effects. Featuring dual white tube elements encased by RGB pixel-mappable faces, these fixtures synced flawlessly with LED visuals, enriching the immersive audience experience.

The Color Strike M’s extensive control parameters enabled dynamic and responsive lighting designs, particularly beneficial during Summit’s high-energy tracks. Their precise pixel mapping capabilities and seamless integration via DMX, ArtNet, and sACN ensured flawless operation and synchronisation throughout each performance.

Bringing the Vision to Life
This sophisticated use of GLP and Chauvet lighting fixtures demonstrated the profound impact of premium lighting equipment on enhancing audience experiences nationwide. Special recognition goes to Heavy Global’s Asher Luber, whose vision and expert coordination created visually stunning and technically impeccable shows.

John Summit’s Australian tour was more than a testament to his musical talent; it was a showcase of industry-leading lighting technology, expertly executed to captivate and enthral sold-out crowds across the country.
