Waves Audio has announced that it’s now shipping the SSL EV2 Channel plugin offering a recreation of the SSL 4000E console channel strip that includes the original SSL “O2” Brown EQ and the console’s saturated mic preamp and line inputs.
Authorized by Solid State Logic and created using Waves’ new Precision Analog Component technology, the SSL EV2 Channel has been modeled component-by-component from a meticulously maintained reference console. Alongside the classic dynamics and EQ controls, the plugin introduces versatile new features such as the ability to switch between two EQ flavors: the Black Knob (242) delivering clean punch, and the original Brown Knob (O2), the first EQ developed for SSL E-Series consoles that provides a crunchy, gritty sound with character.
The newly modeled Line and Mic preamp input section is designed to offer rich harmonic distortion options that range from from gentle saturation to an aggressive drive. Users can engage THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) with the Analog switch – a key element in recreating the saturated analog console sound – or that can turn Analog off for a cleaner input.
The Dynamics section includes a soft-knee compressor/limiter and a gate/expander. It can be placed before or after the EQ in the signal chain for more creativity and precision. As in the original hardware, makeup gain is applied automatically.
The SSL EV2 Channel comes with more than 600 presets, including hundreds of presets by GRAMMY-winning producers and mix engineers Jacquire King, Stuart White, Joe Barresi, Lu Diaz, Dave Pensado, Rich Costey, Jack Joseph Puig, and many others. It’s available separately and also as part of the Waves SSL 4000 Collection and Waves Studio Classics Collection.
