The West Australian Academy of Performing Arts has been a breeding ground for Lighting talent for decades, being able to provide the very best technology to allow for the most creative lighting designs is essential. WAAPA is home to numerous different performance spaces and recently the Enright Theatre space was chosen for a full Lighting overhaul.
WAAPA’s Head of Lighting Jon Davey did exhaustive research and testing prior to choosing the fixtures for this venue upgrade.
“The Enright Theatre upgrade includes 16 of Ovation 915FC Fresnel’s and 16 of Ovation 910FC Profile luminaires. The Ovation fixtures were selected to meet WAAPA’s requirements of low noise, flicker-free, high efficiency, RGBA-Lime fixture suitable for an intimate Studio space, delivered at a highly competitive price,” Jon comments
“RGBA-Lime colour mixing has been adopted across a range of fixtures to allow for an incredibly diverse range of colours with a standardised process in creating colour palettes,” John continued. “With the Ovation 910FC Profiles, WAAPA is able to provide the traditional visual appeal of a Tungsten Fresnel with the colour mixing versatility of RGBA-Lime. RGBA-Lime allows students to explore colour in light in entirely new ways by eliminating the compromise inherent in the choice of traditional colour filters. This is a time and cost-effective way of supporting a huge variety of performance styles while allowing each to attain a unique, distinctive quality of light. The DMX controllable zoom in the 910FC Fresnel was an added feature that even further enhanced the versatility and possibilities of this rig.
The choice of a traditional Fresnel style fixture was extremely important in the aesthetic response to a space where the audience is able to see a fully exposed lighting rig.
Showtools provide great support for their product, assisting with firmware updates and fixture libraries on site.”
Also included in the re-fit were 12x Ovation H-265WW LED Houselights that completed the installation perfectly delivering seamless coverage and full range dimming over the audience.
The WAAPA Enright Theatre Install was supplied and commissioned by Perth’s leading Venue installation and supply company – Venue Technical Services. “We loved working closely with WAAPA and Showtools International to deliver this project on time and on budget, the results speak for themselves,” comments VTS Director Rick Browne
