Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival

March in Melbourne means major events, and the most stylish has to be the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival.

Now in its 3rd year at the Royal Exhibition Building, one of Andrew Arney’s main objectives when putting the lighting design on paper was to highlight the building’s amazing architecture. “When you have the opportunity to work in a building like the Royal Exhibition Building, you’d be silly not to abuse the privilege.” Richard Grenfell and Tim Newman took hold of the reins on site and worked closely with the Fashion Festival stylists the team came up with some awesome lighting looks which exploited the building’s beauty.

At 150m long, and 80m at its widest, it’s a huge building, and therefore a massive amount of lights were required to light both the interior of the building and the Catwalk.

A combination of Show Pro EX36 Floods, Martin Mac Quantum & Mac 700 washes flooded the room in colour, whilst Martin Mac Vipers and Mac 101s provided great beam effects in conjunction with the MDG Hazers.

The 55m long catwalk was lit with Fresnels and MAC Auras. Using closely spaced Fresnels from the front provided an extremely even wash of light, with photographers commenting that it was unheard of how evenly lit that catwalk was. More Auras from the back created the ‘eye candy’ looking down the runway as well as providing colour variations and visual effects.

There were many hours put in by many people, so a big thank you goes out to all involved. It was a great team effort with amazing results.

Resolution X is extremely proud of its long standing relationship with the Melbourne Fashion Festival, and are looking forward to another highly successful festival in 2019.

A very special thanks goes to VAMFF and Lucas Dawson Photography for these beautiful photos!
