The Concourse is home to a 1000 seat Concert Hall, 500 seat Theatre and 500 capacity flat floor exhibition space.
An opportunity exists for experienced Theatre Technicians to become involved in one of Sydney’s leading performing arts spaces. Working within the in-house casual technical team your knowledge and experience will form an integral part of The Concourse experience to both clients and patrons.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Working under the direction of the Technical Manager, the Venue Technician has the following responsibilities:
- Plan and carry out preventative and ad-hock maintenance across the site both in and outside your department.
- Oversee various aspects of the planning and delivery of technical operations for performances and events held at The Concourse. Ensuring the highest quality for our customers and stakeholders.
- Maintain, prepare and collate equipment required for upcoming events including technical equipment, furniture and consumables.
- Conduct risk assessments and assist in the development of Safe Work Method Statements in line with industry standards and expectations.
- Comply with current WHS legislation, venue policy and procedures, Risk Assessments, Safe Work Method Statements and current industry standards.
- Operate technical equipment within your department at a high professional level, and be willing to work and operate across all departments as required.
- Be highly flexible in hours of work, committed to a rotating shift basis available 7 days a week.
- Provide feedback to the Technical Manager with regards to better processes, increasing efficiency, and reliability within the technical department in order to better achieve outcomes for Century Venues and our clients.
The responsibilities of this position require the successful applicant to be comfortable working in a dynamic, multi-venue performing arts space, and the challenges that come with that including irregular and long shifts, physically demanding work and live performance deadlines.
SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Technical experience at a high level of your department specialisation – Lighting
Knowledge and experience in:
- ETC Eos consoles and software.
- Use of a range of lighting and control protocols (DMX512, sACN, RDM, Art-Net, etc).
- Power distribution, dimming systems and their control in similar sized venues.
- Architectural lighting systems and their integration with performance systems (AMX, C-bus, DMX Gateways etc).
- Best-practice maintenance procedures for equipment commonly found in performance spaces.
- Basic fault finding skills including cable repair/termination and soldering.
- Remote control integration for Qlab using Midi, OSC etc.
- Experience in the delivery of live production in a similar genre and size to The Concourse. e.g musical theatre, orchestral and chamber music, contemporary dance, drama, ballet, contemporary music, corporate meetings and product launches.
- Good general knowledge of all aspects of technical production and keeping that knowledge current with industry standards and practices.
- Proven knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety procedures and best practise within the industry.
- I.T. knowledge and experience with I.T. infrastructure, switching, and network management.
- Be familiar with modern computerised systems including cloud based task management software, drawing software and general office suites.
- Possess fantastic communication, team building and interpersonal skills.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES
Required:
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a performing arts centre, theatre, production company or related industry is considered necessary.
- Demonstrated experience and high level understanding of technical equipment used in performance spaces of this kind.
- Physical fitness and ability to comfortably work at heights.
- Construction Industry Induction (white Card)
- High level of competency on in-house equipment relevant to the department.
Desirable:
- Competent Testing and tagging (AS/NZS 3760)
- Competent in safe operation of EWP’s (Vertical Lift)
- Experience with I.T. infrastructure, switching, and network management.
- First Aid Certificate
- Basic Rigging
- CAD software experience
- Working Safely at Heights Competency
REMUNERATION
In line with Live Performance Award Production and Support Staff Level 4-6 (depending on experience)
Minimum 30hrs per week (rostered fortnightly in advance) with overtime.
Pro-rata annual leave and sick leave.
