Venue Technician – Arts House

Salary $67,729* + 9.5% Superannuation
Permanent Full Time
Working hours are regularly rostered as evening and weekend shifts.
*This salary includes a 20% loading for working unusual hours.

City Of Melbourne’s Arts and Culture Branch is implementing a new operating model for Arts House in 2015. This will enable  Arts House to expand and strengthen its delivery of contemporary performing arts programs showcasing independent artists and enhancing community participation and activation of North Melbourne and the broader community.

The Position … Arts House are currently recruiting for a new Venue Technician. This role is responsible for the provision of high quality technical support and expertise, working closely with the Creative team, partner organisations, artists and presenters to ensure production and technical requirements are met to enable safe and effective delivery of the Arts House program. Reporting to the Production Manager, the Venue Technician provides high quality technical support to The Arts House program. You will provide specialist technical and production expertise, advice and support for events, as well as set up the venue including lighting interpretation sound, AV and safety plans. You will be required to co-ordinate and perform Bump in and Bump out activities for presentations, productions and events and provide general supervision of casual staff.

This role also requires you to operate & manage theatrical equipment during performances and ensure it is returned in good working order following events. Along with other duties you will also play a vital role in the safety and security of building.

You will have…(selection criteria)

Demonstrated experience working in the performing arts in a technical capacity with proven experience in interpreting and implementing production schedules including rigging, sound, lighting and AV equipment.
Solid understanding of technical and operational requirements to ensure safe work practices in the delivery of venue functions.
Strong administrative skills (including computer skills) including proven ability to manage files and prepare reports.
Proven track record in contributing to procedure manuals and operating systems relating to technical support and expertise.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of Occupational Health and Safety and risk management and the capacity to implement them.
Excellent interpersonal skills and proven record of engaging effectively with team members, artists and community groups.
