The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts WAAPA is one of the world’s leading performing arts academies, delivering the most comprehensive range of performing arts training in Australia. About The Opportunity WAAPA is seeking a Venue and Technical Services Officer to join our growing team in the City Campus.

The Venues and Technical Operations team is responsible for the operation, maintenance and lifecycle planning of all venue technical systems. We are seeking applications from Venues Technicians that specialise in audio, lighting, video, communications or rigging, and with a general skill set keen to work across all areas.

Reporting to the Manager, Venues and Technical Services, this role requires a fusion of technical expertise, general knowledge, and practical experience to effectively achieve the institution’s multifaceted objectives.

This position supports the efficient operation of systems and resources supporting teaching and productions through a coordinated team approach, offering effective and consistent technical services. It offers specialised technical expertise while providing support to School activities and outcomes, furnishing timely and proactive assistance to School staff and students in the academic programme in a customer-focussed manner.

About You To be successful in this role you will have experience in Performing Arts or a relevant discipline, OR equivalent level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training or professional accreditation and be able to demonstrate:

  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, schedules and logistics efficiently.
  • Highly developed technical problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate, identify and analyse problems, and their source causes and related issues.
  • The ability to act with high levels of autonomy, initiative, adaptability, and with attention to detail.
  • The ability to balance and prioritise tasks without losing sight of desired outcomes and remaining proactive.
  • Efficient and well-developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Current high-risk work licences and safety certifications (e.g. EWP, Working at Heights, White Card) or willingness to obtain.
