Bell Shakespeare is Australia’s national Shakespeare company. Headquartered at Sydney’s Walsh Bay Arts Precinct, the company tours extensively throughout Australia each year, delivering a wide-reaching theatre and education program to audiences nationally.
We are seeking a skilled Venue and Operations Manager to join our team. Having recently relocated to new, purpose-built premises at Pier 2/3 this is an exciting time to join. Reporting to the Head of Production, the Venue and Operations Manager will manage our premises including two rehearsal/performance studios, production workshops, shared public spaces (both internal and external), and the company’s administrative headquarters.
This is an opportunity to join Bell Shakespeare at a time of considerable expansion and to proactively support the company’s strategic direction as well as to contribute to the establishment of a vibrant and successful arts precinct with our industry colleagues.
About you:
The successful applicant will have an ability to work efficiently and logically, managing our premises and key service provider contracts, and working collegially across all departments within the company, as well as with our Walsh Bay co-tenants. You will have experience in building and venue management, have a sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office platform, SharePoint or comparable platforms.
With an ability to support Company activity and that of external clients and hirers, the Venue and Operations Manager will ensure our facilities and operations are safe and compliant.

To be considered for this role you will have:
Essential criteria
- Minimum of three years industry experience in mid to large-scale live theatrical production
- Minimum of 3 years industry experience managing a small to medium venue/creative premises or delivering theatre or events within a multi-purpose venue
- Demonstrated professional industry experience
- Experience in the planning, installation, and operation of technical systems
- Experience in building and facilities management
- Experience of and ability to manage budgets
- Knowledge of Workplace Health & Safety requirements in a production environment and prior experience producing WH&S documentation, including Risk Assessments and Safe Work Method Statements.
- Ability to create and interpret technical drawings using CAD software
- Ability to work in a team environment whilst also able to work autonomously
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to keep detailed written and electronic records.
- Must hold a current driver’s licence
- Have Right to Work in Australia documentation.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of IT systems
- Experience in working with contracted suppliers
- Experience with Office 365 suites (SharePoint, Excel, and Word)
- Experience in using tools and machinery
- Forklift licence
- Dogging and/or Riggers Certification
