Vari-Lite doubles FLX S capacity and more with free ZerOS 8.0 software update

Vari-Lite, industry pioneers in moving head lighting control and a Signify (Euronext: LIGHT) entertainment lighting brand, announced the ZerOS 8.0 software update for the FLX S Series, along with the legacy FLX Console and ZerOS Server. The update doubles the capacity of Vari-Lite’s FLX S Series consoles, removing the need for paid universe upgrades, and further increases the integration between Vari-Lite’s FLX S consoles and new RigSwitch+ power platform.

“We’re witnessing our users demand more and more of their trusty FLX S consoles, including the number of fixtures they wish to control along with the increasing feature counts of fixtures such as the new VL600 Acclaim+ Series” says Bobby Harrell, Vari-Lite Console Specialist and Business Development Manager at Signify. “Therefore, we’ve spent considerable time reengineering ZerOS so we better utilize the powerful FLX S hardware to comfortably support significantly larger show files. We’re delighted to offer this for free to all our tens of thousands of FLX S users.”

With ZerOS 8.0, FLX S24 & FLX S48 now support 96 & 192 fixtures respectively, both now across 2,048 DMX channels (equivalent to four full DMX universes). Not content with doubling the fixture count and channel license, ZerOS 8.0 also doubles the number of playbacks, groups and palettes available on all FLX S consoles. FLX Console and ZerOS Server also receives an upgrade to 4,096 channels (equivalent to 8 full DMX universes).

“We’re blown away by the positive response to RigSwitch+ and seeing installs around the world already enjoying the power, flexibility and feature set of our new power platform,” adds Harrell. “We wanted to ensure these venues can fully control RigSwitch+ without eating into the fixture count of their FLX Series consoles, and so we’ve added new relay features throughout ZerOS.”

With ZerOS 8.0, users can add relay circuits to every fixture on their console without further eating into their fixture count. These relays can be manually controlled or users can allow ZerOS to automatically control the relays – switching each individual circuit on when the fixture plugged into it is needed, and switching it off when they’re not.

“ZerOS 8.0 means FLX S, RigSwitch+ and Acclaim Series integrate together even better than before,” concludes Martin Palmer, Vari-Lite Marketing and Product Management Leader at Signify, “making for a great value, high performance, installation package.”

Vari-Lite has also simultaneously released ZerOS 7.14.4 specifically for legacy ZerOS consoles, improving both performance and stability to these consoles.
