ABOUT THE ROLE
Working with UMSU staff and elected student representatives and operating under the general direction of the Production and Venue Manager, Union House Theatre, this position is accountable for supervising and assisting theatre hires in the set-up of their productions/performances and ensuring building and safety regulations are enforced.
Your Key Accountabilities will include:
- Supervision and assistance of hirers and crew activities in all Performing Arts venues during bump in, bump out, rehearsals and performances;
- Assisting in maintaining the performing arts venues; as well as lighting, sound and audio-visual equipment and proactively ensure that venues and equipment are fit for purpose;
- Administration of relevant documentation for work activities that occur in all venues; inclusive of but no limited to: handovers, shift reports, maintenance and faults;
- Ensuring security of the venues and equipment during afterhours activity.
ABOUT YOU
To succeed in this?position,?you will possess relevant Technical Theatre qualifications (e.g. lighting & audio) equivalent to a trades certificate or Certificate III, coupled with significant experience in a related field, or a relevant combination of skills knowledge and/or training. A valid Working with Children Check, Elevated Work Platform – VL and Electrical Test and Tag competencies are also required.
Essential to your success will be your proven track record in the provision of stage and venue maintenance and set-up services, including a demonstrated ability to supervise less-experienced theatre technicians and ensure the standard operating procedures (SOP) are followed by all hirers.
In addition, you have/can:
- Demonstrated stage/production management experience.
- The ability to work with diverse groups of people and successfully pass on your expertise and industry knowledge to hirers and technicians.
- Provide great support to the back and front of house operations at the University’s performing arts venues to foster an artistic and creative environment on campus.

This is a seasonal ongoing position (24 hours per week x 31 weeks), with a starting base salary of $61,683- (pro rata) plus superannuation.
This position will include day, evening and weekend work. Hours required will be on a Friday through to Monday schedule.
