The Opportunity
Monash University Performing Arts Centres (MPAC) is looking for experienced and enthusiastic Technical Staff specialising in either Lighting, Sound, Staging, Flying or Vision to work at our venues on two campuses – Robert Blackwood Hall and The Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts on Clayton campus, and the George Jenkins Theatre on Peninsula campus.
Our Technical team members are passionate about creatively delivering highly professional theatre and entertainment production services and outstanding customer service for our Clients. All positions require a broad knowledge of technical theatre and events practice, a calm, professional approach under pressure, the ability to proactively problem solve creatively and are required to assist with the safe evacuation of the venues in the event of an emergency. All positions involve working at heights and significant manual handling.
Events at our venues are varied and held during the day as well as night, on weekdays and weekends. We are looking for staff who are flexible about their availability.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical operations for productions and events coming into MPAC venues focussing on Lighting, Sound, Staging or Vision set up, operation and pack down with a high level of competence
• Ensure technical needs of events are delivered professionally and in a safe and efficient manner
• Contribute to maintenance, repair and preparation of MPAC equipment
• Take a lead role in Emergency and Incident control
Selection Criteria
• Demonstrated experience of event delivery in a performing arts environment
• Demonstrated experience in one of the following fields Lighting, Sound, Staging/Flys or Vision operation
• High level of console operation and system engineering in Lighting or Sound
• Safe Installation and fault finding of equipment
• Lighting design and operation with conventional, LED and Moving lights (ETC preferred)
• Sound Mixing (DiGiCo preferred)
• Power fly system operation (Tait Nomad preferred)
• Audio Visual operation
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of safe work practices and OHS in a performing arts environment
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within teams and across multiple disciplines to ensure completion of work
Highly Desirable:
- EWP, Electrical Test and Tag and Providing First Aid certificate
- Dogging or Basic, Intermediate or Advanced Riggers Licence
