Theatre Technicians – Expression of Interest

The Role 

Caulfield Campus | Wheelers Hill Campus 

At Caulfield Grammar School our purpose is to “enable quality learning every day in every experience for every learner, for life” and our Sports program is an integral component to achieving this.

Our Cripps Centre features a 500-seat professional theatre dedicated to performing art, visual arts spaces and hosts music concerts, music and dance productions, special events and assemblies. The Theatre Technicians will provide effective technical services for events and assist with the overall venue operations and processes.  As a key member of our team, you will work within a fully resourced, professional, theatre space, complete with full fly tower and orchestra pit, as well as in each of the Black Theatres and other smaller event spaces. 

With an all-year-round multi-faceted Theatre Program,we are seeking expressions of interest from Theatre Technicians who are interested in joining our team on a casual basis and help our students shine and bring their biggest dreams to life on stage. 

Our productions and events span the entire year, each one offering a new opportunity to create something extraordinary. Once dates are confirmed, we’ll share details with as much notice as possible—whether your expertise is needed before the show, behind the scenes on the day, or in the final moments after the curtain falls.

Key Duties 

  • Provide expertise and support around lighting and audio requirements 
  • Assist in the management of all Performing Arts facilities systems and maintain their effective operation  
  • Ensure effective set-up and pack-down of equipment and provide technical support for performances and events 
  • Contribute to efficient operation and safety of the facilities, and assist in the supervision of activities performed in the areas of the venue 
  • Assist with securing the venue and the safety of its occupants by working within the venue’s operational policies and guidelines 
  • Model and live the Caulfield Grammar School values and behaviours. 


Skills and Experience  

  • Experience and/or knowledge of the technical requirements and OH&S in a performing arts centre, and ability to support others in these functions 
  • Current working knowledge of the mechanics and operation of manual double-purchase flying system and counterweight flying system, including adequate numerical skills as required 
  • Proficient and creative skills as a lighting board operator and audio desk operator 
  • Venue Technical Training Certificate from an accredited organisation or equivalent technical experience or OHS qualifications. 
  • Have a Victorian Employment Working with Children Check, Level 1 First Aid and Anaphylaxis Certification or be prepared to obtain these
