Theatre Technician – Maintenance Operations

About the role

The Theatre Technician – Maintenance Operations will contribute to implementing a holistic program of change across Planning, Environmental and Cultural Services Division in collaboration with the section leadership team and in consultation with the Townsville community. This will involve leading the Cultural Services Section on a transformative journey focusing on the needs and aspirations of the Townsville community developing a culture of customer-centricity and personal accountability; and reshaping how we deliver services to maximise value.

The role provides support to the Arts Visual and Performing Team and undertakes a wide variety of tasks that includes design and construction of sets, constructing staging equipment and devices to support the team tasks, monitoring building maintenance, undertaking and/or organising repairs, sourcing and procurement of materials to support the delivery of performances and building maintenance and supporting the wider Arts Visual and Performing Team.   

About you

  • Trade Certificate or extensive experience in at least one trade such as carpentry or boiler making.
  • Excellent knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety practices in particular safe lifting practices, storage and use of hazardous substances and the safe use of power tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a team environment, undertaking a range of tasks to support the outputs of the Arts Visual and Performing Team.
  • Excellent customer service skills to work with a wide range of people from diverse background, interest, age and abilities.
  • Basic knowledge of theatre technical systems and commitment to working in a dedicated team to further the performing arts in the community.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions with sound time management abilities to meet deadlines for theatrical performances
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently to design and construct sets, props, and to liaise/procure and undertake maintenance tasks.
  • Sound literacy and numeracy skills and experience in the use of the Office suite of products.
  • Sound problem solving abilities.
  • Current Queensland “C” class driver’s licence.
  • Positive Notice Blue Card.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings as required.
  • Ability to carry out physical labour as required.
