Theatre Teacher and Production Manager

The Role

Join our esteemed educational institution as we seek a qualified classroom teacher to fill a specialist role in teaching Performing Arts (Year 7) and Theatre (Year 8) on a 0.5FTE teaching load (18.75 hours per week). The remaining hours (also 0.5FTE) will be spent performing the role of Production Manager via a time release. This is a dynamic and unique opportunity for 12 months (fixed term), starting Term 1 at our Wheelers Hill Campus.

The ideal candidate will showcase a profound passion for the performing arts and captivating and stimulating students while adeptly incorporating innovative learning technologies. We seek an individual of high energy, enthusiasm, forward-thinking mindset, and aspirational teaching practices to join our dedicated Theatre team, working collaboratively to achieve learning area goals.

The candidate will also work closely with the Deputy Head of Campus and the Learning Area Leader for Theatre and Dance in the role of Production Manager to ensure the successful delivery of Campus theatre and dance productions.

Key duties – Teacher

  • Review and assess students at the beginning of each program to provide a flexible program that caters for individual students
  • Deliver learning programs that demonstrate a research-based knowledge of how students learn
  • Evaluate personal teaching and learning programs including feedback from students and assessment data to inform planning
  • Model high expectations to enable a safe and supportive classroom culture
  • Provide reports within school standards and timelines
  • Actively participate in professional development activities
  • Embrace a culture of collaboration to enhance student learning
  • Model and live the Caulfield Grammar School values and behaviours

Additional Duties – Production Manager

  • Manage Campus theatre and dance productions
  • Produce and manage all co-curricular Productions
  • Assist with academic productions and events as required
  • Direct one Production within the performance season
  • Oversee the production logistical processes

Skills And Experience

  • Demonstrated experience teaching middle years students
  • Is values-driven, able to work collaboratively in a small team, and achieves KPIs set
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Working knowledge of the IB philosophy and approach to teaching is advantageous
  • Holds a current VIT Registration, relevant teaching qualifications and exceptional knowledge and experience in theatre (or training in theatrical education)
  • Has experience working on a large scale, musical theatre/dance production involving a large cast, stagecraft design and creation
  • Has experience directing and/or assistant directing independent, professional, community or school Theatre/Dance productions
