Lake Macquarie City Council has an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Theatre Operations Lead who is passionate about presenting performing arts experiences to a diverse community and understands the importance of theatres in community education and development.
The Theatre Operations Lead is responsible for the effective use and day-to-day management and operations of our two state of the art 300 seat theatres located in Rathmines and Warners Bay. This includes all hire scheduling and administration, theatre and equipment maintenance, contractor liaison, customer service support, report on visitation and revenue targets and stock management.
The role requires an attention to detail, a commitment to customer service and the ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders to administer, and manage a variety of commercial and community performance-based experiences within these facilities.
The role will also coordinate a small but vibrant annual performance program across two unique and divine theatre spaces in Lake Macquarie. We are an experimental, contemporary and exciting arts team who will support you in the delivery of live music, community theatres and performance. The theatres have both recently undergone renovations and we are ambitious and open new ideas and approaches for attracting new audiences.
The position requires frequent travel between theatre facilities and LMCC’s Administration Office located in Speers Point, NSW. The role operates on a 9-day fortnight including regular weekends, based on a roster spanning from Monday through to Sunday; 6.00am to 11.00pm.

For this community-facing role, we are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated professional who holds the technical knowledge to successfully manage the theatres, and support the community in the use and hire of the facilities.
Your passion for curating and coordinating creative experiences will see you thrive in the role as you develop the performing arts program for the two theatres.
Your adaptable and approachable style coupled with excellent interpersonal skills will support you in effectively collaborating with various stakeholders, suppliers and members of the community. Importantly, the applicants should possess excellent attention to detail, strong administrative skills and a commitment to upholding high standards of service.
Specifically, we want to hear from you if you meet the following criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications in Performing Arts and/or cultural facility management and/or theatre craft and stage production.
- Experience in theatre facility management and a solid understanding of theatre technical issues and equipment.
- Experience with venue management specifically theatres and the ability to broaden the range of hiring options of the facility. weddings and corporate hire and events, is highly desirable
- Ability to innovate and creatively develop a performing arts program that appeals to a broad range of audiences and supports the implementation of the performing arts strategy.
- C Class Drivers Licence
- Understanding of and an interest in the performing arts sector strategy and deliverables is highly desirable.
