Theatre/Events Technician

The Arts Faculty at St Mark’s maintains a proud tradition of offering a diverse and successful arts program, encompassing Primary and Secondary School, and with a large proportion of students involved, in a harmonious and productive learning environment. 

The position of the Theatre/Events Technician involves supporting the educational needs of students by contributing to the organisation, maintenance and operation of specialist performing arts facilities and equipment. There will also be some opportunity for the provision of mentoring students and facilitating professional development of staff.  

The Theatre/Events Technician reports to the Head of the Arts. For technician support provided to areas outside of the Arts Department, they are responsible to the Deputy Principal. Flexibility with times and days (inclusive of evenings and weekends) due to school and external events/productions will be required. This is to be negotiated with the Head of the Arts, in consultation with the Deputy Principal.

Candidates should provide evidence that addresses the following criteria

  • Experience of working in a performing arts venue.
  • Experience with all technical aspects of the Performing Arts.
  • Knowledge of intermediate ICT/AV setup and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of QLAB and the QLAB and the Grand MA3 Lighting Console and System would be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, including the ability to adapt to and upskill in emerging technologies and software advancements in the performing arts industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Establishment of positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
  • Understanding of the importance of Pastoral Care and its purposeful interpretation and implementation at the classroom level.
  • Be able to demonstrate positive support for the School’s Anglican Identity, as well as the co-curricular life of the School.
  • Ability to work creatively, using problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work within a set budget, including managing own working hours.


Extra-Curricular

  • Attend staff meetings, as required.
  • Support School activities through attendance at various extra-curricular and social functions (e.g. attendance at Parent Information evenings).
  • Participate in the life of the school community as required, within the limits of ethical boundaries.
  • Coordination of weekly Tech Crew sessions.
  • School Productions (Junior School, Whole School and Curriculum Productions and Showcases), liaising with Teacher in charge of Productions and Head of the Arts.
  • Flexibility regarding hours will be required on occasion.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check current to within 6 months prior to commencement of employment at St Mark’s.
  • Driver’s licence is desirable
