PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Royal Hotel in Casino, NSW, undertook a major upgrade to its audio-visual infrastructure to elevate the patron experience across multiple entertainment and hospitality zones. The brief was straightforward: deliver a multi-zone audio and video solution that offers maximum flexibility, seamless control, and intuitive operation—even for non-technical staff. Amber Technology partnered with the dealer, installation team and the venue to deliver a cost-effective, user-friendly system, powered by commercial-grade AV over IP and distributed audio technology.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The key goals of the upgrade were to:
* Implement a multi-zone AV system that is flexible and scalable.
* Simplify control of AV sources and zones for day-to-day staff use.
* Utilise AV over IP distribution to minimise cabling and increase reliability. * Provide a cost-effective control solution with built-in DSP and intuitive interfaces.
* Enable TV audio playback through speakers in key areas including the TAB, Sports Bar, and Beer Garden.
KEY ZONES AND SPEAKER COVERAGE
To ensure consistent sound quality across the venue, the hotel was divided into dedicated audio zones. Each area was fitted with speakers and amplification selected to match the space’s specific acoustic and operational needs.
Beer Garden
Australian Monitor FLEX50B wall-mount speakers (IP65 rated) Australian Monitor XRS10ODV 10” outdoor speakers (IP44) Amplification: AMB1200 amplifier for high-output performance in open-air spaces.
Outdoor Gaming
Australian Monitor QFC5CS 5” in-ceiling speakers for discreet, even audio coverage.
Bar and Dining
Australian Monitor QFC8CS 8” in-ceiling 30W speakers for balanced, ambient audio.
Sport bar and TAB
These high-traffic zones benefit from TV audio routed through the venue’s speaker system via Wyrestorm’s AV over IP platform delivering clear, synchronised playback for live sports and racing.
VIDEO DISTRIBUTION | AV OVER IP
To streamline video routing and reduce cabling Infrastructure, the venue deployed a Wyrestorm NetworkHD 400 Series AV over IP solution: Encoders: 6 x Wyrestorm – NHD-400-E-TX – NetworkHD 400 series encoder 4K.
Decoders: 16 x Wyrestorm – NHD-400-E-RX – NetworkHD 400 series decoder 4K (TAB x 2, Pub TVs x10, Beer Garden LED x 4). This setup enables the seamless routing of Foxtel, music video, and event content to any screen in the venue, delivering low-latency, high-resolution 4K video across all zones.
MAIN SYSTEM AND AMPLIFICATION BACKBONE
At the heart of the system is a suite of Australian Monitor products, providing reliable, professional grade audio throughout the venue: ZONEMIX8 – 8-zone DSP mixer with customisable routing. Bluesound Professional 4-Zone Streamer – Delivers high-quality background music across selected areas
CONTROL AND USER INTERFACE
System control is managed via the Wyrestorm SYNTOUCH10—a 10.1” touchscreen interface running a custom-built Zonemix App. Designed with simplicity in mind, it allows staff to manage volume, source selection, and zone control with minimal training, ensuring the system remains easy to operate during day-to-day service.
FINAL CONFIGURATION CONSIDERATIONS
To tailor the system to the hotel’s exact needs, several operational questions were clarified during installation:
How many Foxtel boxes or other sources are required?
Are there any additional inputs (e.g. laptops, signage players)?
Which areas should have access to the music streamer for independent playback?
These inputs helped fine-tune the final system layout and ensured the venue is prepared for future scalability.
