A unique opportunity has arisen for a pool of talented individuals to provide technical services and production at the City of Kalamunda’s, Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre (KPAC).

About this Opportunity

The Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre (KPAC) comprises of the Performing Arts Theatre Auditorium, the Performing Arts Teaching Area, the Kalamunda Agricultural Hall and Lesser Hall.  The proscenium arch theatre has raked seating for 257, a large sprung stage, and a well-equipped Bio Box.  The theatre is complimented by its large foyer with a ticket box, bar area and comfortable seating.  

The main function of these casual positions is to deliver all the technical aspects of KPAC effectively and safely and ensuring all equipment is well maintained.  The Technicians will also liaise with and assist clients on site ensuring all technical requirements are met, to ensure optimal performance and audience satisfaction.  Specific duties will include: 

  • Rig, patch and operate theatre lighting equipment.
  • Program and operate computerised and manual lighting control systems. 
  • Set up, program, and mix live audio in a theatre environment.
  • Set up, program, and operate vision systems. 
  • Assist with bump in and out of technical equipment and event staging, including the loading and unloading of vehicles as directed.
  • Identify and problem solve technical equipment faults of complex audio lighting and vision systems.
  • Ensure theatre equipment, assets and infrastructure are maintained or repaired to achieve a safe, efficient and professional working environment. 
  • Interpret technical requirements for touring and community hires. 

Selection Criteria:

  1. Minimum 12 months recent experience working in a theatre or live performance venue.
  2. Demonstrated experience in providing high level technical support in at least one discipline – lighting, audio, and vision. 
  3. Relevant experience working as a Theatre mechanist with staging skills.
  4. Ability to troubleshooting complex audio visual and lighting problems offering viable and suitable solutions. 
  5. Ability to work under pressure, prioritising tasks in a calm, professional manner. 
  6. Strong computer and IT skills, including but not limited Microsoft office suite, and Keynote presentations. 
  7. High level verbal and written communication skills.
  8. High level interpersonal and customer service skills.
  9. Excellent organisation and time management skills.
  10. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  11. Demonstrated ability to work within policies, procedures and follow WHS guidelines.

Hours of Work

There is the requirement to be available to work flexible hours including evening and weekends.  Hours of work vary to accommodate bookings and programming.

This position offers a rate of $44.33 per hour including casual loading plus superannuation.
