The Opportunity

Monash Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA) is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Technician to work at our performing arts venues,  the Robert Blackwood Hall, the recently redeveloped Alexander Theatre and two further venues, the Sound Gallery and Jazz Club creating the state of the art Ian Potter Centre of the Performing Arts on the Clayton Campus.

Our Technical team members are passionate about creatively delivering highly professional theatre and entertainment production services, and outstanding customer service for our clients. We are looking for a capable all-rounder who can provide professional technical support before, during, and after events at MAPA venues, from venue hire to sound, lighting, stage mechanics, audio /visual work to bump-in and bump-out activities. As the successful candidate, you will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to address specific production requirements as they arise and ensure events run smoothly. You will also be responsible for providing supervision and training as required.

To thrive in this role you will have an excellent general knowledge of all theatre and venue technical areas, with specialist expertise and experience in at least one theatre technical discipline. Your responsibilities will require frequent client engagements, so we will be looking for strong communication and interpersonal skills too. Significant knowledge and experience of stage lighting in both a theatre and music context including conventional and intelligent fixtures are highly desirable.

If you believe you fit this profile, we look forward to receiving your application.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. This position at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to “How to apply for Monash Jobs“.
