Technician

In 2023, HOTA joined Experience Gold Coast, which combines HOTA, Study Gold Coast, Destination Gold Coast, Placemakers* and Major Events Gold Coast in an exciting new chapter.

As a newly formed entity, Experience Gold Coast is focused on supercharging tourism, events, arts & culture, and education outcomes for the City of Gold Coast.?? 

Are you a skilled lighting professional with a passion for the arts and technical excellence? 

We are seeking experienced casual Technicians to join our Technical Services Department to support the delivery of events within HOTA venues. 

The Technical Services Department is responsible for providing comprehensive technical and production support including, Audio, Audio Visual, Lighting, Staging and Rigging for all HOTA events. The Technical Services Department thrives on its collaboration efforts to deliver leading professional technical services.

Technical professionals with experience within the theatre, touring and events industry are encouraged to apply, for the following available positions:

Position Responsibilities:

  • Technical Setup: Ensuring all equipment is set up correctly for the performance or event, including lighting, sound, staging, and any special effects.
  • Event Operation: Running technical equipment during performances (e.g., operating lights, sound systems, video equipment).
  • Troubleshooting: Quickly resolving any technical issues that arise during a performance or rehearsal.
  • Maintenance: Helping with the upkeep of technical equipment and ensuring it’s in good working condition.
  • Rigging: Depending on the nature of the arts precinct, you may be involved in rigging lights, projectors, speakers, and other equipment.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with other technicians, artists, directors, and stage managers to ensure the smooth running of events.
  • Dynamic Setting: The environment is fast-paced and collaborative, with frequent interaction with artists, performers, directors, and other technicians.
  • Varied Locations: Depending on the precinct, you could work in different spaces (e.g., theatres, galleries, performance halls) within the precinct.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in various technical systems like sound boards, lighting rigs, projectors, and other specialised equipment.
  • Experience in Live Events: Familiarity with working in live performance settings such as theatres, galleries, festivals, or concert venues.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot technical problems under pressure, often in real-time during events.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring that all technical aspects are correctly set up and function properly to ensure a successful event.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication with other team members, directors, and artists.
  • Blue Card: Is required for this role.
