Position: Technical & Venue Support Officer
Immediate Supervisor: Production Manager

Duty Statement
Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres are multi-disciplinary arts facilities that present a variety of arts and cultural programming, as well as provide venues for community engagement and hire. There are two main halls (one at each centre), two A+G theatres, two flexible large-scale spaces and multiple rooms for workshops, classes, meetings and events.
This newly created position involves assisting the Production Manager in maintaining all venues and technical setup/strikedown for events and arts programming.
The successful candidate will be well-organised, well-presented, professional and courteous. They will have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work as part of a small and varied team and thrive in an at-times, fast-paced environment.
KEY TASKS
Rig and focus lighting in preparation for events.
Set up and test audio for projection in the lead up to events including DIs, mixing console, stage boxes as required.
Dismantle and assemble ramp and stage.
Set up livestream equipment, video and audio gear for online streaming.
Hang and remove fairy lights.
Set up venues in accordance with setup schedule (this may include technical equipment, staging and furniture); re-set venues post-event if necessary.
Ensure event and venue templates are stocked in the Duty Manager Storerooms.
Pre-event, ensure event documentation, box office and bar sales-related equipment is in Duty Manager Storerooms.
Collate and distribute Duty Manager reports to colleagues and Production Manager; follow-up any issues reported if required.
Monitor venues to ensure that they are properly cared for by users and inventory (equipment/furniture) are accounted for. Report any observed misuse, damage or missing inventory to the Production Manager.
Report any WHS issues or concerns to the Production Manager.
Contribute to the development of procedures and improvements affecting both centres.
With the Production Manager, utilize Kounta (bar/food software) to monitor bar/food inventory and related bar supplies, including physical handling and stocktake.
OTHER TASKS – COVID
Ensure venues and users of venues comply with the A+G Covid Safe Plan.
Conduct daily sanitising of venues, focusing on high-touchpoints, and common areas.
Clean areas following events or venue hire as necessary.
Check and collect completed visitor sign-in sheets.
FACILITY SUPPORT
Provide support to Maintenance Officers on an occasional basis.
The Technical and Venue Support Officer may undertake other event and venue-related tasks and duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Production Manager.
Accountability
The role reports directly to the Production Manager, who has oversight and responsibility of all venues at both centres.
The successful candidate is expected to perform all duties to the best of their ability at all times; use their best endeavours to promote and protect the interests of the employer; and follow all reasonable and lawful directions given to them by the employer, including complying with policies and procedures as amended from time to time.
This role is required to perform duties under limited direct supervision and is therefore expected to show motivation and initiative in performing duties. The Technical and Venue Support Officer is also expected to maintain a respectful, positive and professional manner.
Working Environment
The Technical and Venue Support Officer will work at Gorman Arts Centre and Ainslie Arts Centre, which are ACT Government-owned arts facilities. The work duties include physical tasks, such as climbing ladders, cleaning and setting up furniture, and lifting bar supplies and stock therefore the position requires a high standard of fitness and mobility.
Terms of Engagement
This position is part-time and ongoing. It is subject to a six month probation period.
Standard hours of work is 25 hours per week, to be worked over five days – Tuesday to Saturday. Exact spread of hours over the five days are negotiable with employer, and may vary from time to time to meet venue and event schedule needs.
Remuneration
The role is classed as Level 5, Live Performance Award, and set at an annual salary calculated pro rata on a base of $51,407 and includes leave loading, plus superannuation, paid in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act 1992 (Cwlth). Selection Criteria
Demonstrated experience working in venues requiring production such as theatres, concert halls, galleries, entertainment or convention centres.
Hands-on experience with a range of technical systems and equipment.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to prioritise tasks, working effectively under pressure and managing workload to meet deadlines.
