WAAPA is one of the world’s leading performing arts academies, delivering the most comprehensive range of performing arts training in Australia. Our students are able to develop there skills on-stage as an actor, dances or musician, or behind the scenes in production, design or arts management.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is creative and a problem solver to work in a workshop environment. The successful candidate will work with the diverse and dynamic workshop team building set pieces from design to production.

The Role

What you will do

  • Construct set pieces for WAAPA productions under the supervision of the Workshop Manager and Technical Officer, Workshop.
  • Assist in monitoring students in the construction of sets under the direction of the Workshop Manager, Technical Officer, Workshop
  • Assist in the sourcing of materials for set construction
  • Assist with rigging, flying, crewing and logistics for productions in line with the overall production plan
  • Work with external stakeholders, such as venue technicians and operational staff to ensure bump-in/bump-out runs efficiently and safely in external venues.
  • Assist with transport and storage of sets between performance venues and storage facilities.
  • General workshop duties including assisting with the maintenance of equipment, maintaining work areas, identifying and rectifying safety hazards.
  • Supervise students whilst in the Workshop and ensuring safety standards are upheld at all times.

Key Criteria
To be successful you will have experience in a similar role and will be able to demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:

  • Working with students (have a genuine desire to help students)
  • Previous experience Scenery construction & materials
  • Previous experience working backstage in a variety of theatres (desirable)
  • Previous experience AutoCAD (desirable)
  • Can-do positive attitude & enthusiasm
  • Able to work in a team and individually on tight timelines
  • Able to take instruction from Workshop Manager, Technical Officer Workshop

As part of the recruitment process, candidates may be required to undertake a full medical health assessment.

Benefits & Remuneration
This full time, ongoing position attracts remuneration of $66,813 to $71,161 per annum (HEW 4) plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
