The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) is the national agency concerned with the visibility, usability and sustainability of Australia’s audiovisual heritage. The NFSA’s mission is to collect, preserve and share the national audiovisual collection, in order for others to learn, experience and create with it.
The Technical Support Officer assists in the delivery of the NFSA’s public programs, events and, when needed, education activities and exhibitions. These activities are designed for a variety of audiences including schools and Indigenous communities. These activities are delivered within the budget allocated and to a high standard, meeting key performance targets and maximising the contribution of the team to the NFSA’s key strategic directions.
This APS 4 position is for a one year non-ongoing contract in the Engagement Branch.
Job Details
Under limited direction undertake the following duties:
Provide projection, audio, video, lighting, digital/interactives and video conferencing support for events, education programs, exhibitions and public programs to the highest quality.
Provide production support to Engagement activities.
Responsible for the preparation, quality checking and exhibiting of video, digital, film and other moving image carriers within the NFSA’s professional archival environment.
Provide advice for internal and external stakeholders to best exploit and utilise the technical capabilities of NFSA’s public facing AV environment.
Open and close the NFSA’s programs and exhibitions spaces in accordance with established procedures
Assist with scheduled maintenance of NFSA audiovisual presentation equipment.
Ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Maintain collaborative and productive working relationships with key external stakeholders.
Work with staff across the NFSA to ensure that NFSA’s engagement work is in synergy with access, curatorial, communications, commercial, education and ICT activities.
Reporting and administration support.
The position requires frequent event work taking place outside of standard business hours.
Selection Criteria

Demonstrated event production skills, with knowledge of projection, audio, video, lighting, digital/interactives and video conferencing.
Excellent trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills, ownership of responsibility, results-oriented approach to projects.
Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with people at all levels of specialisation, including external stakeholders to deliver projects.
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with project teams including other staff and other internal sections.
Qualifications and experience
Tertiary qualifications in a related field.
Essential skills include live audio engineering/FoH mixing, event production, driver’s license
Desirable skills include film/digital projection, theatre lighting operation.
Security Clearance Requirements
The successful applicant will be required to obtain or hold a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) ACT 2011, and will require an Australian Federal Police Criminal Record check.
