Overall Responsibility
Working at The Pink Flamingo Spiegelclub on the Gold Coast, you will be responsible for assisting both the operations and the production department in the safe, smooth and cost effective delivery of our resident productions and special events.
With a passion for technical theatre, specialising in the audio visual field, you will have the necessary skills, qualifications and experience to execute the role. Working within a small team, you will be constantly seeking to improve the department, processes and output.
Specific Responsibilities
- Responsible for the technical requirements of the Front of House, Stage and Backstage areas of the venue, ensuring a safe operation for staff and visiting companies, artists, technicians and associated personnel at all times.
- Gain an understanding of the whole building (interior and exterior) and all its capabilities from a technical perspective, including lighting, sound, video and cabling.
- Ensure the on-time production of all shows by producing a Technical Schedule for each event and show in accordance with the event’s production specification, including the provision of staff, equipment, facilities and resources and to liaise with visiting companies, promoters, producers, resident company and hirers on providing relevant services.
- Ensure that all bump-in, fit-ups and bump-out regulations are adhered to, Health & Safety check sheets are accurately completed.
- Produce and maintain accurate documentation for operating resident productions.
- Maintain accurate backup processes for resident productions.
- Ensure the successful presentation of all shows and events within the venue from a technical standpoint.
- Ensure the highest possible standards are maintained for resident and visiting companies.
- Plan and manage all aspects of the venue’s technical operation within the technical operations budget.
- Provide technical support, guidance and supervision, including Stage Management, LX and Sound as required, to resident and visiting touring companies.
- Liaise with venue management to ensure successful execution of events and overcome & manage conflicting priorities in the best interests of the organisation.
- Offer creative ideas to assist with the design and development of digital screen artwork and animation.
- Ensure that the theatre’s equipment is properly maintained in good working order, that equipment is regularly cleaned, tested and that replacement equipment and stock is ordered as needed.
- Ensure compliance with OHS legislation, policies, procedures and work practices and participate in risk assessments as required.
- Maintain and develop as appropriate Health & Safety, Risk Assessment and Fire logs.
- Operate live performances as a single operator, including the use of QLab and MA Lighting Console and electric winch.
- Timely reporting of departmental issues, including staffing, maintenance, equipment failure etc.
- Other duties as directed by the Production Manager or Venue Manager.
Skills, Competencies, & Traits
- Tertiary qualification in Technical Theatre or similar
- Experienced QLab programmer / Operator
- Experienced / Licensed Rigger
- Experience working on single operator shows
- Have a hands on approach to problem solving
